I have to admit I was quite intimidated by them when we were first introduced by a mutual friend. They’re also always looking to support and build up their female peers. I have major respect for them because they’re not afraid to speak their minds and use their music to make political statements about the things they believe in. I picked this song to kick off the mix because of the serious girl power vibes they and their music embody. This BFF duo (no, they’re not sisters!) are seriously badass.
There are so many more I didn’t get to because I couldn’t possibly squeeze any more music into an hour mix haha, but this is just a start, and I look forward to showcasing more in the future :)
I certainly learned A LOT in the making of this, and I hope you find an artist you haven’t heard before, or maybe learn something new about an artist you already knew of. I’ve also written a little blurb about each one of these amazing humans, so you can get to learn a little bit about the person behind the music. I wanted to change that, and this mix is a testament to that.Įvery song in this mix has at least one female producer on it, although there’s some very talented men as well! The point of this isn’t to pigeonhole these artists as “female producers” who have to be lumped together under that title, but rather to showcase the many styles, sounds, and personalities of these artists that go beyond their gender. I realized that although I have many female producer friends, I hadn’t really made enough of an effort to find other female artists, play their songs out, and include them in mixes. There’s been a lot of talk about the lack of equality in the dance music industry when it comes to gender, and I think a lot of times it’s easier to look outward at what other people can change, instead of what you yourself can change. It was a challenge fitting all the sounds together, but I’m really proud of it, and I hope you enjoy listening as much as I did making it. Some of these women have been crushing it for years, others are only just getting started.
What started off as a way to highlight some of my incredible producer friends turned into a showcase for 48 female producers whose music covers all kinds of genres.
